Affluent 50 to 60-Something Men Still Choose Beauty First

Fabulous-Old-Man-Fashion-Looks-71

“…all older women hear (and thus believe) that older men are only looking for much younger women. OK, many of them are. But are they getting them? Not really, unless they’re wealthy and powerful. (And I have always believed that it’s good to identify those men and remove them from the 50-something dating pool ASAP; I’m not interested in men like that so move along, men, and good luck!”). Vicki Larson, journalist

I hate to tell you people this, but a simple fact can save you a lot of heartache:

Reasonably attractive, healthy and successful older men have lots of choices when it comes to choosing partners.

Too many, in most cases, which is why so many of them are single or serial monogamists, the emphasis on serial.

~~~
When it gets down to it, money and power are the great equalizers.
Conversely, youth and beauty are also commodities openly traded on the human stock exchange.
Whether you’re young or old, you have different assets to barter, but something is always for sale.
Most of the older successful guys I know have an exacting set of standards they apply to the acquired women in their lives.
These are the very same standards, by the way, they applied to their ex-wives before they divorced them 20 years later.
The fact is successful men prefer to date younger women is because THEY CAN.
Generally speaking, women over the age of 17 are not attracted to youth.
They’re attracted to confidence and power.
Therefore when a beautiful woman in her 20s or 30s meets a man who is in his 50s, with the world in the palm of his hands, it’s sexy and alluring to her.
His age becomes irrelevant.
Walk into any upscale restaurant or bar and what you will see are drop-dead gorgeous women accompanying successful older men.
These women were not forced at gunpoint, believe me.
To many men I know, it’s almost irrelevant whether these women are truly in love with them or merely out to make better lives for themselves.
It matters that they are in the company of a beautiful, intelligent and uncomplicated young woman.
The rest they leave to a suspension of disbelief.
She is everything their wives once were before time took its pound of flesh and soul.
No wonder so many middle aged women without much to leverage scream and yell about all of this.
But put them in the position to do what these young women are doing and you wouldn’t hear a peep.
The fact is average men and women receive average returns, and exceptional beauty and youth will always win out where successful older men are concerned.
Is it fair?
No.
But pretending that “real men” don’t want younger women is delusion. That they want an equal is naive at best, disastrous at worst.
According to one NYC matchmaker, this is the normal course of things:
“I recently had a 78-year-old client who wouldn’t even consider a woman older than 50. If you are 25 years old as you are reading this, let me put this in perspective: That would be like dating a 55-year-old.
That brings me to why I can’t take on women as clients; and no, misogyny has nothing to do with it. In this tough singles market, if a man pays top dollar for a matchmaker, he expects nothing less than a 29-year-old model.  As a result, I cannot find a husband for a 47-year-old schoolteacher with two kids and three mortgages.”
So where do relatively pretty, average 40-plus women find men of means?
They don’t.
What they can and do find are men of equal value, which is not a particularly palatable prospect for most.
My recommendation to such women:
1] Join a book club.
2] Enroll in a continuing education class at a local college.
3] Attend art openings.
4] Get out of the house – maximize exposure.
5] Go back to therapy.
Nature is neither kind nor compassionate, but the good news is that there are exceptions to every rule.
Just not very many.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy for Baby Boomers as Common as Flu Shots
Mel
Take a look at Mel Gibson in the above photo.
Notice the vascular character of his arms, veins running like ship rope over rock.
This look is not uncommon for men in their 20’s [with testosterone levels well north of 1000], but it is impossible for 60-year-old men with levels in the 300-400 range, which is pretty much all of us, plus or minus a few.
The only exceptions I have ever seen [and remember folks, I photographed national fitness magazine covers and editorials for 10 years of my career], are men who took steroids early on in their careers and built the framework for what we now see.
Without the drugs, there would be no “framework’ to speak of.
After a while, you can spot users a mile off.
But what’s really interesting about all of this is that taking testosterone is becoming so commonplace that I can envision supermarkets like Kroger offering weekly injections along with flu shots, because like the flu, aging sucks and in many cases leads to death.
~~~

Here’s the hook most commonly used to encourage testosterone use:

Anybody, regardless of occupation, can receive testosterone replacement therapy if he experiences symptoms of Low-T.

Please read the above statement carefully.

It says, “if he experiences symptoms of Low-T,” not “if he has Low-T.”

In other words, no blood test necessary.

There is a difference between feeling more fatigued at 60 than you did at 20. It’s called nature, which is more an annoyance than anything else, and therefore testosterone supplementation is a perfectly rational course of action…like recommending 30 minutes a day on a treadmill for diabetics.

I have many friends who self-administer weekly testosterone injections. Others opt for patches, pills and other delivery systems, but injections seem to be the most preferred method.

When asked what they “take” [because it’s so damn obvious], most claim to be “all natural.”

What this actually means is that they are taking “bio-identical” testosterone, manufactured in labs to mimic testosterone produced by the human body.

The interesting news is that because testosterone use has become so commonplace, most people just say “I’m taking 1cc a week of testosterone, so nothing really.”

I know that many of you don’t believe a word of this. Why would you?

You live in a world where people go to work, raise families, play golf and fade in ways designed by nature.

You accept the fact that you don’t look the way you did 30 years ago.

You try to eat right, exercise when you can and pray you don’t drop dead before your 60th birthday.

This is normal.

Most people don’t expect life to go on and on the way it used to…until now.

~~~
I have a good friend who is on an elaborate “supplement cocktail,” which has led to explosive mass and strength.
He knows the risks, but in his mind the rewards far outweigh them.
I don’t judge him. We all live our lives the way we choose, and as long as we treat one another with dignity and respect, I support him in any way I can.
If he were using heroin, I would do the same.
In the end, the litany of potential side-effects fade along with the side-effects from taking a daily aspirin.
The rationale is that life is dangerous, but that shouldn’t stop any of us from living it.
Using this rationale, testosterone use is relative, like getting out of bed.
~~~

Target Consumers of Testosterone Replacement Therapy:

1] People in law enforcement.

2] Affluent older men with the financial resources available to offset the cost of “aging gracefully.”

3] Young men and women in professional athletics.

4] Bullied young men who seek revenge against their tormentors.

5] People who have unnaturally low testosterone levels as measured by several blood tests.

How to Combat Aging: Real World Strategies

how-to-slow-aging-process-1

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/susan-krauss-whitbourne/combat-ageism_b_9720708.html

Coming from someone who has handled the aging process about as well as a chicken about to be thrown into a jet turbine to test its ability to vaporize it without stalling, you will disintegrate to one degree or another no matter how much you spend, how much you do, or how much genetics are in your camp.

Live the perfect stress-free life, visit Aspen every 5 minutes, get daily massages, mud packs, holistic body treatments, facial fillers, Botox injections, face lifts, collagen, but no matter what you do, you can’t beat the shit out of time.

The best you can do is look better than your neighbors, which is something you can always count on at HOA meetings no matter how depressed you are about everything else.

Aside from the aforementioned obvious, there is a deeply psychological consequence of aging in we men that involves our primal role as protectors.

In short [because I know you don’t want to read a psych lecture], when men begin to feel physically challenged, their self-esteem hits the floor. And even when we are in exemplary condition for our age, we are always and forever looking back at where we once were. It’s inevitable. We all do it. And we all feel like crap about it no matter how much we are still able to do.

But there are a few things we can do to put an end to the misery, or, at least, hold it in abeyance while we get back into therapy.

Here they are:

1] Try to feel optimistic about aging.

Yea, right. There is nothing to look forward to about aging. Nothing. You’re just here. The best you can do is make the most of what’s left. So no, I’m not a fan of being older.

Is there any good news?

There is some:

      a] You get into fewer fistfights because younger men don’t consider you an equal match anymore than they do women.

      b] You have more money, so you can buy women who would not otherwise date you.

      c] People hold the door for you unlike the old days when they let it slam you in the face.

     d] There are planned communities filled with people your age, and with beach views.

      e] You get prescription drug discounts.

     f] People tell you how great you look when it’s not true.

      g] Young people look at you like you’re completely insane when you talk to them, but they still allow you to do it because they’re no longer afraid of you.

     h] The first person police question are the young adults.

      i] Nobody expects much of you in the gym, so when you are reasonably competitive you get more kudos than you can count.

      j] Forgetting your own phone number is considered normal, and therefore, will not affect you job prospects since you’re not applying.

2] Avoid “senior moment” traps at all cost.

Never discuss your minor health issues to anyone but your physician or personal trainer. No one else your age wants to be reminded of where they are, and younger people dismiss you as irrelevant. It’s their way of squashing what they consider to be an existential threat, mainly because it is.

Instead, allude to what you’ve accomplished in your life and what your next adventure will be.

3] Have your affairs in order, but don’t bring this up in casual conversation under any circumstances, including all of them.

One guy in my gym started talking about his living will and suddenly he had no one to talk to. Still doesn’t.

4] Understand and embrace technology.

Frankly, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t understand technology other than people in their 80’s. This is an even greater reason to make sure you are still of this world.

5] Ignore people will call you out on your age.

You’re going to get this at some point or another — the ribbing about where you are versus where you once were. Ignore it. Move on.

Getting upset about it will validate everything they just said.

Their time is coming.

6] There’s a “fountain of youth” clinic on every street corner [you best avoid].

You’re vulnerable, too hopeful for your own good. And for every soft target there are predators waiting to pounce on your insecurities.

My advice is to find a great Internist, stay in the best shape of your life, and keep your expectations in check.

If you check too many boxes you’ll start experiencing life through the eyes of a once great athlete who thinks he has another season in him, even if no one else thinks so, including his coaches and physicians.

Drugging America – One Advert At a Time

1864s9p66qzn6jpg

“Pharmaceutical companies have seized on the decline in testosterone levels as pathological and applicable to every man. They aim to convince men that common effects of aging like slowing down a bit and feeling less sexual actually constitute a new disease, and that they need a prescription to cure it. This is a seductive message for many men, who just want to feel better than they do, and want to give it a shot, literally.” From op-ed contributor [New York Times] John La Puma.

As I have written about exhaustively, “Low-T” as it is referred is has become a meme for institutionalized drug dealing in America.

~~~
This year alone, the FDA has issued a number of warnings to physicians and male patients regarding the use of testosterone drugs, which they say may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. They’re currently urging doctors and drug makers to warn patients about the potential life-threatening risks they pose. The FDA also wants doctors to prescribe testosterone only to men who are suffering from low testosterone caused by a medical condition confirmed by laboratory tests.
But these days are are no tests, just questions:
PHYSICIAN:
How can I help you?
PATIENT:
I’m feeling a little sluggish and my sex drive isn’t what it used to be.
PHYSICIAN:
Let’s start you off with 1 cc of testosterone a week and shoot me an email to let me know how you’re feeling.
PATIENT:
Thanks, Doc. It’s nice to finally meet someone who gets it.
~~~

With billions in profits on the line, the objective is to bring testosterone supplementation mainstream, like taking a daily multi-vitamin, or prescribing Adderall to people who can’t read the encyclopedia Britannica backwards without falling asleep.

For those who may be squeamish about needles, the industry has introduced a plethora of innovative drug delivery systems:

1. Transdermal Skin Patch: Androderm is a skin patch worn on the arm or upper body, applied once a day. This may cause severe itching and fluid-filled blisters.

2. Gels: AndroGel and Testim are most commonly used and come in individual packets of clear testosterone gel. It’s applied once a day and absorbed directly through the skin. AndroGel, Axiron and Fortesta also come in a pump that delivers the prescribed amount of testosterone. Natesto is a gel applied through the nose. These gels may leave skin red, irritated or itchy.

3. Testosterone Stick: Similar to an underarm deodorant, it’s applied directly to the skin.

4. Mouth Patch: Striant is a tablet that is applied to the upper gum twice per day. It continuously releases testosterone into the blood through the oral tissues. Men may experience an unpleasant or bitter taste in the mouth, difficulty tasting food, stinging or swelling of the lips, and gum pain, tenderness, swelling, and irritation in the mouth.

5. Injections and implants: Testosterone can also be injected directly into the muscles or implanted as pellets in the soft tissues. The body will slowly absorbed the testosterone into the blood stream. Side effects include inflammation and pain.

6. Testosterone pills: Two of the more common formulas are called methyltestosterone and testosterone undecanoate. Some evidence has shown that oral testosterone may cause damage to the liver.

You can’t beat that.

Of course, all testosterone therapy options have annoying side effects, including:

• Increased risk of heart attack and stroke
• Stimulation of prostate tissue
• Serious blood clots
• Hair loss
• Acne or oily skin
• Mild fluid retention
• Breast enlargement
• Increased risk of blood clots
• Worsening of sleep apnea
• Shrunken testicles
• Increased aggression and mood swings
• Decrease in sperm count

Then there’s the link between Testosterone and Prostate Cancer, but who’s counting?

~~~
The truth is testosterone injections should never be the first line of defense when it comes to treating low T.
What many men don’t realize is that testosterone is a lifelong therapy. Once you’re on these therapies, a physician monitors your levels every 6 months or even more frequently. It’s critical to explore all your options and look to natural methods, as opposed to jumping into replacement therapy.
But I’m wasting my breath here because I’m not a physician, and therefore, have no idea what the hell I’m talking about.
All I do know is that if you have an actual condition that could benefit from testosterone supplementation, by all means go for it.
But the point of this and other articles is that everyone is now taking testosterone to be bigger, badder, better than they were before. They do it for the edge it gives them over mortals. The allure is hard to dismiss.
They also have a battery excuses at their disposal to justify the drugs.
Here’s the biggest:
Testosterone decreases by 1 percent each year after.
Then there’s…
• Increase in belly fat
• Weight gain
• Low to no sex drive (we certainly can’t have that)
• Fatigue
• Risk of depression
• Irritability
• Mood Swings
• Low energy
• Bone density
• Increased risk of diabetes
Who wants any of those when a simple prescription can alleviate all of them?
Personally, I follow another regimen:
1. Limit alcohol intake: Even drinking moderate amounts of alcohol can cause testosterone levels to plummet.
2. Reduce stress: be mindful of factors in your life that create stress. Mental or physical stress can quickly depress your levels. The stress hormone cortisol suppresses the body’s ability to make testosterone.
3. Cardio: High-intensity exercise can cut stress in half but don’t overdo it. Injuries and fatigue are sure signs that your workout may lower testosterone.
4. Zinc: The mineral zinc is important for testosterone production. Look to protein-rich foods like meats and fish. If you decide to supplement zinc, stick to a dosage of less than 40mg per day.
5. Vitamin D: This is a big secret when it comes to healthy testosterone levels. Foods like shellfish, tuna, salmon, egg yolks, beans and others work great. You can also look into taking vitamin D supplements, 1,000-2,000 IU per day (that’s what I personally do) and monitor your levels after that. Vitamin D levels should be between 30-60.
6. Limit Sugar: When in doubt, say no to sugar. Testosterone levels decrease because sugar leads to a high insulin level.
7. Healthy fats: Foods like olive oil, raw nuts, coconut oil, grass-fed meats and avocados are essential for building testosterone — 50-70 percent of your diet should include healthy fats.
Having said this, i can personally attest to the fact that testosterone coupled with a whole new array of drug cocktails absolutely, positively provide a bigger, badder edge.
I could lift more weight, sleep less, have more energy, lose belly fat [like, all of it], get lean while building muscle…and on and on…
There’s a reason professional athletes look the way they do no matter how much they travel, how little they sleep and how hard they play.
But most people aren’t professional athletes, which is lost on everyone but professional athletes.
SUMMARY REMARKS
I’m sure that most people think the world I talk about is fiction, that I either have a vivid imagination, or I’m completely insane.
This simply cannot be in the real world.
Boys grow up to be men who get married have children and then retire and die long before they’re technically dead.
This is considered normal.
But in my world there is no such thing as growing up when you can afford not to.
The point is to age well.
Death itself s irrelevant because you don’t have to put up with the indignity of falling apart.
When you acculturated to think this way, drugs are a no-brainer.
Baby Boomer Suicide Rate Rising [as funds for concubines dries up]
ymi_two_girls_one_security_guard
http://www.healthline.com/health-news/baby-boomer-suicide-rate-rising-031515
The recent Great Recession was hard on almost everyone, but especially baby boomers [generation born between 1946-1964] who had decades of savings to invest.
Side note: Money is supposed to fill in all the existential angst after life exacts its pound of flesh and leaves us with less physical relevance.
Thus, it’s no surprise that a rising number of middle-aged people of that generation resorted to suicide as the weight of economic problems overwhelmed them.
Since that time baby boomers have had the highest rate of suicide of any age group in the United States, which is interesting given the fact that people between the ages of 40 and 64 have historically had one of the lowest rates.
Add to this conundrum the fact that baby boomers are now sliding head long into the over-65 demographic, which is ground zero for historically high suicide rates.
Put another way, if you don’t have money at this writing, you’re pretty much screwed.
According to the article, since the beginning of the Great Recession, 8.8 million jobs were lost, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Middle-aged people were disproportionately affected in terms of lost property value, household finances, and lost retirement savings.
Twenty-seven percent of those aged 50 to 64 experienced reduction in salaries, higher than any other age group.
On a related note, of those baby boomers who committed suicide from 2005 to 2010, 81 percent had prior mental health or substance abuse problems.
Although suicides for baby boomers could level out as the economy improves, experts say the fact this generation is entering older age is worrisome.
So now even if you have money, you’re too old to really enjoy it.
The key is not to let things get to a point of escalation. When people are suicidal, they’re rigid and not thinking clearly.
Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention says, “The key is not to let things get to a point of escalation. When people are suicidal, they’re rigid and not thinking clearly.”
But she is wrong. They are thinking very clearly, which is the problem.
How do you talk an 80-year-old man without money out of hanging himself?
It doesn’t make sense. The man is thinking quite rationally, in my view. What’s the point of going on if you’re broke, and, for all intents and purposes, broken physically?
Is there any hope?
Not really.
From personal experience, I can give you 10 things older men [those over 65] can do to dramatically improve their mental health –– but we’re talking about older men who don’t have to worry about their next meal.
For such men, hope is everywhere because they can afford it.
More specifically, here are 10 ways to insure that it sticks around a long time:
1] Hit the gym on a daily basis, interact with people, and reduce stress. Exercise releases endorphins, which create feelings of happiness and euphoria without heroin. It also boosts self-esteem by providing a sense of physical relevance and self-possession that other older men lose along the way.
2] Check your testosterone levels. At this stage of the game “normal” levels probably aren’t enough. So boost them. Even if it leads to premature death, what the hell difference does it make is all you’re doing is dying in slow motion?
3] Be sexually active. If you’re bored with your wife, figure out how not to be bored with her. If she’s not interested, hire a surrogate wife. Many women I know provide “girlfriend experiences” with a full rate schedule they keep on Ipads. Many keep them in their gym bags. And for God’s sake, get a scrip for ED medication if you think you need it. Most 25-year-olds are using it, so why not you?
 4] Don’t shy away from cosmetic improvements. If your teeth look like crap, fix them. If your jaws are hanging like liver from the sides of your face…facelift! Then there are fillers, micro-dermabrasion…I could go on. Just do it.
5] If you drive a Buick la Sabre, I can’t help you.
2005-Buick-LeSabre_14745
6] Do something you’ve always wanted to do, but for whatever reason haven’t. Nobody’s going to care if you decide to go back-packing in Yosemite after spending 40 years behind a desk.
 7] When was the last time you went clothes shopping? Seriously. Most older men look old because they dress like people who should already be dead. Thus, I suggest you let your “girlfriend” decide what to buy. Pink pleated pants and golfing shirts are now customary attire for the dead at wakes, fyi.
8] Spend time around younger people whenever possible. It has been demonstrated time and time again that people become conditioned to their surroundings, which should not include graveyards and hospitals.
9] Stop talking about your aches and pains, and for God’s sake avoid the obituaries. Nobody wants to hear about your aging joints because only old people have aching joints no matter how ridiculous this sounds. And talking about the death of anyone but, for example, an otherwise youthful and healthy downhill skier is a buzzkill.
10] If you take yourself way too seriously and can’t remember the last time you laughed, you’re like the guy with the Buick.
I’ll give you 10 more in upcoming blogs…
Super Ripped, Super Shredded Men Over 50 – and Reality
Fess6
Just so you know where I’m coming from, I’ve been active in the fitness lifestyle my entire life.
In fact, it could be argued that fitness interfered with my personal and professional life on more than one occasion, and over a period of many, many years.
Thus, to suggest in any way that I’m an outsider where this is concerned is naive.
I’ve been in this world, know the player-profiles, understand the mindset.
So let’s get real.
By the time you’re my age [60], things change. You can no longer pack on dense muscle while bleeding fat. It isn’t going to happen –– not naturally.
This means you’re going to need extra help, like testosterone supplementation coupled with 3 or 4 other pharmaceutical agents designed to “compliment” one another.
One helps build strength, another cuts inflammation…you get the point.
Going down this road is a conscious choice many men make when mortality is beating down the doors and there’s nothing left but an aging body.
The psychological profiles of these men are all similar: They are most often vain, arrogant, entitled and filled with rage.
Why?
Because there is nothing else in their lives to help mitigate the attrition.
They’re left with a disintegrating asset, rather than an expanding mind and soul; and asset on a collision course with destiny no matter how many syringes they jam into their bloated veins.
Do I feel the psychological pressure of mortality?
Absolutely. I feel it every day of my life, which is why I have a life beyond my physical body.
I know this is a shocking revelation to many, that there is anything at all worth exploring beyond the physical.
Surprise surprise.
My creative pursuits alone are a full time job, not to mention my relationship, which also includes two dogs and two cats as big as dogs.
This scenario is what most refer to as a balanced life, which does pull time away from workouts, perfect eating and regular blood work necessary to monitor elevated liver enzyme and PSA levels while on steroids.
In this sense, fitness can become ab addiction like alcoholism or drug addiction or sex addiction or gambling addiction or any of the other addictions that raid the dopamine mines and turn one’s life into a living nightmare of emptiness.
http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2013/07/what_is_dopamine_love_lust_sex_addiction_gambling_motivation_reward.html
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Newton’s Third law of Motion
But I’m not here to beat up on men who take care of themselves. Hardly.
I think men should take exemplary care of themselves, but to understand that we are all human, and to expect results beyong what the body will naturally deliver will require more than a healthy lifestyle.
Go back to the blood test. If it’s normal, the rest is up to you and the genetics you were born with.
But no matter what your genetics have to say about it, age is the Supreme Court of physicality.
You’re not getting out of life unscathed.
We all pay the price, which is why it is so critical for all of us as older men to have lives outside of the gym.
In the end, there is nothing more pathetic than an aging man with nothing to show for himself but low body fat and a dark tan.
Now you know why so many of us are punchlines.
10 Alternatives to Steroids That Boost Testosterone
7-smart-ways-to-boost-your-testosterone_graphics_pharmafreak-monounsaturated-fats
DISCLAIMER: I am neither nutritionist nor food guru. The comments below are based upon my own personal experiences and are not meant to replace a visit to your internist or psychiatrist.
We all know by now that Hollywood celebrities hold the key to preternatural youth.
Okay. That was complete bullshit.
Let me rephrase it: We all know by now that Adobe’s Photoshop program is largely responsible for what appears to be preternatural youth in celebrities.
Just meet one of them in person and watch the media’s version of reality crumble.
See #urbandystrophy, the book, on Media vs Reality.
Okay, so any of you interested in avoiding the “wellness clinic” trap of endless pharmaceuticals, here are a few alternatives that might save your actual life.
1] Eat fat!
I know you anorexics equate fat with devil worship, but bear with me.
Dietary fat is actually one of the most critical players when it comes to optimizing natural testosterone production. Long gone are the days when we associate fat with heart disease and elevated cholesterol levels. Now it’s now recognized as a sure way to increase testosterone levels.
In fact, a study published in the “Journal of Applied Physiology” found that diets with higher amounts of monounsaturated and saturated fats have been shown to increase testosterone levels.
In another study, men who switched from a high-fat diet (13 percent saturated fat) to a low-fat diet (5 percent saturated fat) experienced significantly lower testosterone production rates, and lower circulating androgen levels.
“Keep in mind that when it comes to dietary fat, it’s not just the amount of fat you eat, but also the type of fat,” says Don Gauvreau, MSc, co-founder PharmaFreak .
Examples of quality monounsaturated fats:
Olive oil, almonds, avocados, peanut butter
Examples of quality saturated fats:
Red meat, coconut oil, egg yolks, dark chocolate, cheese
2] Don’t avoid cholesterol!
Seriously.
Testosterone is derived from cholesterol, so if your diet is lacking in cholesterol, you’re also shortchanging yourself when it comes to the muscle-building hormone.
For example, incorporating whole eggs into a moderately carbohydrate-restricted diet was shown to improve the lipoprotein profile (increased HDL cholesterol) and reduce insulin resistance in individuals with metabolic syndrome, a constellation of health issues that includes hypertension, abnormally high blood glucose, and other risk factors for heart disease.
The best choices are red meat, egg yolks, and seafood such as shrimp, squid, and lobster.
Whole eggs are a staple in my diet. I usually have one or two with another 4 eggwhites each morning.
Oh, and it tastes better as you already know but continue to deny for the sake of your health.
3] Consume testosterone-boosting ingredients
First, get a blood test.
When the results are in, your Internist will tell you whether or not your testosterone levels are low.
If so, he or she may prescribe testosterone.
As for “actual testosterone-boosting ingredients,” there aren’t any.
Having said this, “natural” bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts the world over will talk you blue in the face about Testofen [Fenugreek Extract], Zinc, D-Aspartic Acid [DAA], Vitamin D, and Diindolylmethane [DIM], among others.
Again, first the blood test, second the discussion with said Internist.
4] High-intensity interval training [HIIT]
Excessive aerobic endurance activities like marathon running, hours in the pool and 6 hours a day of biking will decrease testosterone levels, increase cortisol production, weaken the immune system, and handicap strength gains. No wonder these three are the anorexic’s drugs of choice.
With this in mind, I suggest you consider HIIT, a training concept in which low to moderate intensity intervals are alternated with high intensity intervals.
In research, HIIT has been shown to burn adipose tissue far more effectively than low-intensity exercise – up to 50% more efficiently, and has also been shown to speed up your metabolism which helps burn more calories throughout the day.
It also boosts testosterone and HGH levels in your body, according to study after study.
If you’re still confused, ask a qualified personal trainer to explain it.
5] Limit your training session to an hour
If you’re regularly engaging in lengthy, drawn-out workouts with long rest periods or excessive endurance exercise, your testosterone levels will take a hit!
More specifically, workouts lasting longer than about an hour begin to spike cortisol levels and subsequently decrease testosterone.
Additionally, research has demonstrated that a shorter rest period between sets (one minute versus three minutes) elicited higher acute hormonal responses following a bout of resistance training.
In order for you to maximize your testosterone response, keep your rest periods short and total workout time to 60 minutes or fewer.
6] If you don’t get enough rest, you’re screwed
Especially for you older guys, a lack of quality sleep will dramatically diminish the amount of testosterone your body produces, thereby reducing muscle growth and fat loss!
Research continue to demonstrate that the amount of sleep you get is associated with morning testosterone levels.
Researchers at the University of Chicago recorded the sleeping patterns of healthy men and found that participants’ testosterone levels increased the longer they slept.
I need at least 8 hours of sleep each night, with 9 being optimal. Anything less and I’m useless.
7] Keep stress to a minimum
The connection between stress and increased cortisol production are well documented.
But stress is also quite deadly. It’s side-effects are legion: Heart disease, digestive problems, sleep disorder, depression, weight problems, auto immune problems, skin conditions, like eczema…and on and on and on…
8] Eat healthy
All food groups, always, but avoid simple sugar.
It can damage your heart, promote belly fat, may be linked to cancer production – and cancer survival, has toxic effects on the liver, saps your brain power, and shortens your life.
So, like I said, avoid it like the plague.
9] Keep your daily drinking down to one or two glasses of wine
Requires no elaboration.
Of course, if your have the genetics of Keith Richards, it may in fact improve the quality and duration of your life.
10] Find a good lover
Just like any physical activity, sex is good for your heart.
Several studies have found that your risk of dying from a heart disease event, such as stroke or heart attack, goes down as the frequency of good orgasms increase.
Some of you will wonder what a bad orgasm is, but once you’ve had a good one you’ll appreciate the distinction.
I might also add, sex offers the same soothing effects of sugary comfort foods when it comes to reducing stress without killing you in the process.
Then there’s the better sleep, lower stress hormones, better moods, better complexion…even cancer prevention.
As for its testosterone boosting properties, both testosterone and estrogen levels experience a boost through regular sexual activity.
I dunno. It kinda’ sells itself…
Postscript
And now for something completely different, here’s a Facebook link to “Fit Guys Over 50,” featuring ridiculously shredded men who are obvious testosterone users. Though they may be disciplined in their workouts, eating and recovery, they re just as disciplined in their injections.
Time to get real.
You’re only hearing half the story.
“T-Therapy” [Testosterone] Under the Microscope
CROH_health_androgel_05-14
http://www.forbes.com/sites/arleneweintraub/2015/03/24/why-all-those-testosterone-ads-constitute-disease-mongering/#21c1e2163043
A government committee discovered that, among a sample of nearly a quarter million men, as many as 21% had been given a prescription for testosterone despite not being tested for low-T.
In other words, physicians simply asked patients how they were feeling, and if the answer was anything like “I don’t seem to have the same energy I had at 17…” they got the drugs.
A FEW FACTS
In 2013, over 2 million people were prescribed T-therapy.
In 2014 the number doubled, and Androgel alone reaped $1.4 billion in sales.
In 2014 testosterone products, in general, reached $2.1 billion in sales.
Last year, 6.5 million prescriptions were written for or testosterone products. You can do the math yourself.
Late last year, a joint FDA advisory committee examined the therapy and its potential association with cardiovascular therapy, among other burgeoning issues and abuses.
The findings were shocking. In addition to not being tested for Low-T, 57% of men on T-therapy were also taking either one or several other cardiovascular medications, such as anticoagulants, antihypertensives, anti-platelet therapies, statins, and nitrates. How these medicines work together in the body is not known.
After the preliminary findings were in the FDA voted 20-to-1 to revise the labels of T drugs, including AbbVie’s AndroGel and Lilly’s Axiron to make it abundantly clear that the products should only be prescribed to men who seriously need it.
According to Bloomberg, this is having an effect on sales. For example, IMS Health’s sales alone have plummeted 6% in the first half of 2014 in the same period from the year before.
The National Institutes of Health is sponsoring a short trial comparing men on T with those on a placebo. These results should be quite interesting, as they’ll include information about sexual function and bone health.
I’ll keep you posted on this.
TV AND RADIO BOMBARDMENT
Keep these things in mind the next time you hear a TV or radio ad telling you to “talk to your doctor about low-T.” Even more importantly, pay attention when Physicians or “health” Clinics themselves run ads claiming that testosterone replacement for all aging men is the wave of the future, alongside healthy eating, exercise and a month a year in Aspen to reduce stress.
What these companies [and individuals] fail to mention in these ads is that lower testosterone levels is a natural part of aging, not a medical condition, and that there are very real, life-threatening side effects to these products.
According to Drug Recall Attorney’s Blog, millions of men bought the marketing gimmick, asking their doctors for prescriptions for testosterone products. Michael Seaburn was one of them. He started using Testim and AndroGel topical testosterone treatments. Within two years after starting these treatments, Seaburn had two heart attacks, suffering immense pain and anguish, loss of life’s pleasures, and significant economic losses.
Seaburn, like millions of other men, was not told testosterone treatments had strong links to heart complications, strokes and death. He claims companies like AbbVie purposefully encouraged men to view the normal signs of aging as a “condition,” that could be treated with products like AndroGel.
Sound familiar?
According to the article, “Not only were these companies investing in mass marketing, they were also paying for continuing medical education courses (CME), which doctors are required to take. Pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers support CME programs regularly, to the chagrin of Congress and public advocates. A series of investigations between 2007 and 2009 revealed that these CME courses often acted as aggressive promotions of off-label drug uses (such as promoting testosterone therapy for men without diagnosed hypogonadism). Today, about one-quarter of CME income ($676 million) is from drug/device companies, who create course curriculum and hire faculty.
A review by Journal Sentinel and MedPage Today looked at 75 drug industry-funded testosterone therapy CME courses. Researchers found that a majority of the courses’ faculty were already on drug company payroll for speaking, consulting, and advising roles. These testosterone courses are another part of the effort to turn the natural aging process into a medical condition. Eli Lily alone spent $1.8 million to fund more than 25 testosterone-related CME courses between 2011 and 2014.
CME courses are supposed to be free of bias, but drug companies clearly use the platform as an opportunity to market products directly to doctors for off-label uses. The FDA has stridently stated testosterone products are not to be used in men with low testosterone due to aging, but doctors are prescribing them exactly for this use based largely on CME material. CME courses not only encourage off-label prescribing, but also downplay or completely conceal drug risks.”
At this writing, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against testosterone products companies, and the numbers continue to climb at an alarming rate.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Testosterone therapy can contribute to…
1] Sleep apnea — a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts
2] Acne or other skin reactions
3] Noncancerous growth of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and growth of existing prostate cancer
4] Enlarged breasts
5] Limitations in sperm production and testicle shrinkage
6] Increased risk of a blood clot forming in a deep vein (deep vein thrombosis), which could break loose, travel through your bloodstream and lodge in your lungs, blocking blood flow (pulmonary embolism)
7] Increased risk of heart disease.
FINAL THOUGHTS
At my health club, it is considered perfectly normal – even enlightened – to take pharmaceutical grade testosterone, either in pill form, gels or injectables.
As one man said to me “I lost belly fat without having to workout all day. I put on more lean mass just getting out of bed. I have a six pack I never knew I had. And my sex drive has become so strong that I now have a hooker on speed dial.”
If you’re living in the moment, the side-effects of drug use pale in comparison to the short term results.
If this is your mindset, there’s a dealer on every street corner in Houston.
Remember that Testosterone use for many is like drug addiction.
In fact, many drug addicts, alcoholics and men with related compulsive personality disorders simply swap one addiction for another.
All are in complete denial about side effects until they hit rock bottom.
Before that happens – and it will happen – any good news that can siphoned from the flood of bad is used to justify their addictions.
See, it really doesn’t matter what the addiction is [i.e., drugs, sex, gambling, alcohol…etc].
What matters is how long you can keeping shuffling the deck before you run out of cards.
How To Avoid “Old Man Flat Butt”
RL0Zov6Nothing quite says old like a flat butt!
I can’t help but visualize a hole drilled into a sheet of plywood.
Anyway, I’ve discussed this issue on more occasions than I care to count because I see more of this than I care to see.
~~~

Okay, we all age and die.

~~~
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get started.
~~~

There are many reasons why men suffer flat butts.

Here are a few:

1] Low Testosterone Levels

Among other things, Low T decreases sex drive, and thus, the motivation to look one’s best.

Why would a guy with Low T focus on the shape of his butt when his biggest concern is how to get through the rest of his life without joint pain?

Looking good in a pair of designer jeans is not his objective.

But raise his T levels and all of a sudden he’s back in the gym, visiting a divorce attorney and signing on to an Internet dating service.

2] The Endurance-Sports-Addicted

You’ll notice that as men age they many do more endurance sports, like triathlon where they swim, bike and run.

The reason for this is simple: They aren’t ballistic. You can swim, bike and run into a freaking trance until there’s nothing left of you but skin and bones.

Soon, testosterone levels flatten out along with any and all body fat, and suddenly, the butt disappears.

While these guys tend to look great in the pool, put them in clothing and it’s like – where did he go?

3] The Clinically Depressed

Some men are more accepting of life’s changes and just go with the flow. Their wives are old and fat and they’re resigned to a life of the just happy to be alive mentality.

What they’re happy about I don’t know.

These are men who are shocked to meet someone like me who dares point out that none of this is inevitable, that they can do something about their deteriorated conditions and fading relevance that reinforces their decline.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try to get through, many have lived for so long in this depressive and vegetative mindset that no matter what anybody says to them, it’s like a dream that vanishes the second they open their eyes and see that same old world.

It’s like Stockholm Syndrome where they keep going back to what’s familiar.

It bears noting that many older men accept depression as a normal part of aging and life in general, and therefore, cannot fathom a world in its absence.

DATA POINTS

1] As men age, total testosterone levels decline. Free testosterone (testosterone not bound in the blood to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)) levels decline more rapidly than total testosterone. Studies have shown that total testosterone decreases by approximately 30% in healthy men between the ages of 25 and 75. Free testosterone levels decline even more significantly with decreases of approximately 50%. However, only about 1 in 5 men have a total testosterone level that falls below the normal range. Fortunately, many healthy lifestyle choices, such as heavy resistance training and aerobic exercise, quality sleep, and a healthy diet can actually increase testosterone production naturally.

Will Testosterone Replacement Therapy Cure All of the Ailments Associated with Aging?

NO.

Testosterone replacement therapy will not make up for poor diet, lack of exercise, and a generally unhealthy lifestyle. It is not a magic bullet, nor will it reverse aging.

For those with low testosterone, combining proper diet, exercise, good sleep, and other positive lifestyle modifications with testosterone replacement therapy can make you stronger and leaner and feel better.

Of course, it’s kind of a Catch-22, because when your levels are low you’re not motivated to make changes in your lifestyle unless you’re surrounded by people who believe that life doesn’t end at 60.

2] Studies consistently show that high-volume endurance exercises reduces baseline androgen hormones by 20-40 percent. The androgen hormones include testosterone, estrogen, and DHEA.

Endurance exercise leads to larger acute elevations of the key stress hormones cortisol. Excess cortisol has a catabolic effect on muscle tissue, breaking it down and leading to persistent inflammation.

In other words, you can’t put on a tight, round butt when your hormones are flat.

3] Depression as normal.

Feeling sad or emotional is the main symptom of depression. But for many men that isn’t the primary depression symptom. For example, headaches, digestive problems, fatigue, irritability or chronic pain can sometimes indicate depression.

You may not recognize how much your symptoms affect you, or you may not want to admit to yourself or to anyone else that you’re depressed. But ignoring, suppressing or masking depression with unhealthy behavior won’t make it go away.

From my experience, many older men simply accept depression as a normal part of the aging process. Why would being older not make one depressed?

For one thing, you look worse than you did when you were young.

But what many men fail to see is that you don’t have to look like twigs from dried shrubs glued together and then coated in a thin sheet of rubber.

~~~
CONCLUSION
See a primary care physician for a blood test, a psychiatrist for a clinical diagnosis and a personal trainer to keep you out of a nursing home.
Then do what women do and wear that butt with pride.
They’ll thank you for it, trust me.
FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, THESE ARE THE BEST EXERCISES FOR GLUTES
1] Squats
2] Gluteus kickbacks
3] Pelvic tilts
4] Lunges
5] Bridges
6] Deadlifts
7] Step-ups
8] Deep leg presses
You’re welcome.
Dennis Quaid at 61
0105-dennis-quaid-ripped-hawaii-akmgsi-4http://www.tmz.com/2016/01/05/dennis-quaid-abs-photo/
Dennis Quaid is 6’0″, #175 at what looks to be well below 10% body fat.
By comparison, I’m 6’1″, #230 at 13% body fat, which places me in the top 1% of my age group.
Most people consider this extraordinarily fit.
But I’m not shredded like a slab of turkey jerky, and herein lies the rub.
See, in order to put on – and hold – lean muscle mass at less then 10% body fat [at age 61!], you’ll need help of the preternatural kind.
To wit, Quaid has more lean, angular mass on his shoulders and arms than any man his age can normally produce without “help.”
I’m not accusing him of steroid use because I don’t know him. Maybe he’s a genetic freak. I’ve seen a few in my day.
For everyone else, pulling off tons of lean mass with low body fat is impossible without tinkering with testosterone levels.
What? You think we’re immortal?
Since when do men our age look like Quaid?
Some of you may consider him too lean, too small…kind of ragged, wasted even.
But for men who want this look, it can be acquired at “wellness” clinics and individual physicians operating throughout the United States.
REALITY
1] If you want to perform at levels similar to what you achieved at age 30, you will need a lot more than hard work coupled with a hope and a prayer.
2] I’m not judging, just exposing the truth.
3] You have to decide if the consequences of steroid use are worth the risks.
4] Denial is the mother of delusion.
5] I don’t care how Dennis Quaid chooses to live his life. His job is to entertain, not inspire.
Just trying to keep it real around here.
